That story about Mayor Schmitz's extortion scheme was pretty interesting. I'm actually surprised that a lot of this history survived the Great Quake given how much of San Francisco was destroyed and burned.

This weekend I'm going to honor the Old Poodle Dog and celebrate the end of Prohibition with some stuffed squab and an undertaker cocktail. Or two.
